You have to be careful with perfumes. You can't really tell what is good for another person unless they try it because all perfumes smell a bit different on each person. Also I agree with finding out more what she likes rather than the name...floral? musky? fruity? There are a million different combinations and each person has their own individual preferences. How about getting her a designer purse instead? There isn't a woman alive who wouldn't love that.
I ended up smelling the stuff around there and some of those top shelf things were way over the top ahha. I ended up buying Dior - J'adore. Thanks for the help you guys

What do you mean by "over the top"? There is a reason why they are popular and usually its because people like them. How can a scent be "over the top"?
Sephora ranks their scents on popularity (i.e., sales) and most of what they have in the top 5 are "top shelf" scents. Are they the ones you say are "over the top"?
Dude, you want to make sure you get a top shelf type of perfume for her. Or, you can just get her some perfume that YOU like and tell her how much you love the scent and would love it on her.
My wife is pretty particular with her perfumes. Here is a sampling of what I found in her perfume cabinet:
Vera Wang
Bvlgari - she has three different types
Cartier - Delices
Michael Kors - Michael
Coco Chanel
Calvin Klein - Truth
Venice - I dont know who made this but its one of the wife's favorites
Dolce & Gabbana - Light Blue
Allure
Dior - Dune
I dont think you can go wrong with any of these.
I spoke with the wife and she also has three Burberry scents as well. Says she likes the Burberry best along with the Blvgari.

Do I care what are top sellers for other people? There were brands that I thought were just too strong or too out of the ordinary for what she or I would like. I don't see why you are taking offense to this.. I think if you looked at any sort of fashion magazine you could easily find clothes that are too over the top for your taste..please chill out...
I also like Philosophy, with Amazing Grace being my favorite and the one that I always get compliments on. I think guys really like Falling in Love. I would recommend one of these and get a really nice perfume bottle to put it in.
I can't handle anything but these! Too overpowering and not natural. I am always told, you smell so good when I use Amazing Grace, even just the body lotion.
Just don't buy anything that smells like old, rich women. Fruity/floral always wins over woody scents. You'll be good.
If you really want to wow her, go to the Jo Malone shop. It is expensive but the stuff is so great, and you can blend them. Ask the ladies for the most popular blend of scents. These are the most natural smelling fragrances.
I totally agree with you, i also think that fruity/floral scient always wins!!!
I like a fancy one called Chance by Chanel, and it costs an arm and a leg....
