(Probably for the women, but hey- maybe not..)

I have noticed recently that it seems many women have sworn them off all together, which is fine by me- I think they are the devil's creation. Do you still wear them, and if so, to what kind of function/time of year, etc. Do you think poorly of others who don't wear them, even to a formal function?

(*And if anyone can tell me why they are required for some professions (nursing, waitressing), I would appreciate it. I have never understood why women are/should be required to wear them, as they really don't do anything except make a woman look "smoother" in the leg. I don't think there is any safety element that they are aiding, so why are they required? Any thoughts?)

heh
I'm old enough to remember garters and hose and girdles and that kind of thing.
I think pantyhose did come out the same year that my mom let me shave my legs, which was sometime in the late '60's.
Pantyhose were hailed as this huge progressive step forward, and I guess they were in some ways.
I have indeed seen that fewer women wear them.
I sure avoid them as much as possible, but I've rarely had a job that involved being very dressed up.
I don't really know why they have been "required." Custom, I suppose.

I still wear them when I have to which is about once every 2-3 years.

I am a SAHM so I can go bare legged almost all the time. But there are some things I just do not feel right going bare legged for...weddings, funerals...thankfully neither of those happen very often. Liz

That is one of the things I don't understand, either- we only feel comfortable covering up flesh to look like.... flesh? I could almost understand it more if all nylons were thick and black, or otherwise made the leg look unlike it's natural state, but more often than not, women are trying to get the shade that looks most like their own skintone.

Panty hose. Grrr

no subtle way to deal with it, it might as well be shrink wrap

Well, mine is so......aged, I guess is the best word. At 53, I need some help some days. And for functions like that it just makes me feel less noticeable.

Now if I can just keep the dang things from slipping down to my knees. Liz

I don't wear them unless I have shoes on that cause blisters without them and it is usually under pants. That said, however, my legs haven't been the same since almost every job I have ever had has been on my feet and the spider veins that result aren't pretty!
