I am 5'6" and the regular length is often too long for me, the ankle/short is too short, and petite is often too short too but not always. The last business suit I bought was a petite size and the pants were still too long.

this is my problem too. I am 5'6" but have relatively short legs. Regular pants are too long and have to be worn with heels. Short length pants are too short, but that's what I have to get if I want to wear flats.

Invest in a decent sewing machine.

I'm tall and rather busty, so I taught myself how to do basic tailor so I could buy an XL shirt and trim the waist down to a size Medium or so. Same with pants, hemming pants is RIDICULOUSLY easy. I have a 37" inseam and I'm 6'1 so I have a lot of experience buying pants and seam ripping the hem and re-hemming them.

What drives me nuts are the REAL differences between petite and regular that the clothing industry does not understand.

Petite has to do with body proportion NOT size. A regular size 10 pants and a petite 10 pants should have the same waist and hip size (of course all manufacturers differ on these numbers); the inseams should be 30 and 28, respectively. Within these parameters, other inseam variations could be short, regular, tall. For example regular 10 tall, might have a 31 or 32 inseam; a regular 10 short would have a 29; a petite 10 short -- 26/27 inseam and so forth.

Other differences between petite and regular size are the size of the rise and sleeve lengths. Petite's tend to have a shorter rise for the waist and slightly shorter arm length. It's doesn't mean the arm of a petite is any smaller, just not as long. Shoulder width should remain the same but, again, so many manufacturers think that "petite" means overall smaller and it does not.

Sheesh, most of the clothing manufacturers will have a petite 10 waist equal to a regular size 8, which is ridiculous. "Petite," and "tall" as well, have to do with the proportion of the body, not the size. I wish clothing manufacturers would pick up on that major clue and end the guess work for buying clothes!!

I've got no sympathy..well, a little. At least short people can hem things. We tall people can't add fabric to our pants.
I do find that tall clothing does seem to change the proportions of the garment, not just the length.

Well I have the opposite problem.

I'm 6'0ft with big butt, hips and legs but small waist. Plus size pants aren't that sexy. The zipper comes up to my breast bone, the waist looks weird and they are made for women with stomachs. I would love to hem something...anything! I would also love to wear jogging outfits....You know the velour ones they are always too short.....

I'm sorry this has nothing to do with your problem but that's mine and made me feel better....LOL
