i randomly came across a post on this forum about someone asking what is with the style of wearing shorts with long socks.

i'm from orlando, florida and its very common to see black guys and even some white guys wearing, typically, cargo shorts with high socks.

interestingly though, is that this particular style is not new whatsoever, and although it's commonly worn by teenage black men, it's mainly borrowed from rockers, skaters, and even latino gang members.

i'm big into the rock scene and have been wearing long black bondage cargo shorts made by tripp (black cargo shorts that have d-rings, chains, and zippers on them), which is mostly worn by goth rockers or punk rockers, with usually knee-hi or close to knee-hi solid black socks or black socks with some type of design on them, to add more character.

i was surprised when i started seeing hop hop kids wearing this, mainly because this style, especially in orlando, was never HUGE enough to really latch onto. i think it's when hip hop started becoming more rock oriented is when we started seeing more of this. thanks to lil wayne and several other rappers, who have borrowed this style from rock and skate culture, this form of dress is reaching the kids.

so yea, that's where that whole style came from.

I live in the Orlando area and have yet to really see it, even at theme parks which I frequent.Never noticed it as being a "rock style".

I'm sorry but there is really no explanation for this. It's more like a fad mutation.

I quote from Terminator:
"Listen, and understand. That terminator, er, heinous fad, is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead."

I believe "long socks and shorts" are in cahoots with "socks and sandals" and the plan is to destroy all sense of style. If they team up with (th)ugg boots, we're all in trouble.

I'll stick with my over-the-knee socks and shorts, but then again, I'm a lady and my socks are gorgeous.
