For the past couple of months I have been lusting after a Juicy Couture handbag. Literally dreaming and fantasising about holding that beauty in my arms.

I finally told my mom about the feelings I have for the brand. She started making jokes that she was going to buy me a fake one, and that I would never know the difference. Well, I would.

I believe if you truly like a brand, you won't buy knockoffs. Knockoffs are an insult to the brand. If I bought a fake would Juicy Couture get my money? NO!

And fakes aren't even in good quality. There's usually a misprint, or obviously messed up stitching!

How do you all feel about knockoff brands? Not just purses, but ANYTHING!

I think that people who buy knock-offs, faux, replicas or whatever else they might be called are thiefs, pure and simple.

You(general) are contributing to a large branch of criminals that are stealing from the very brands that you
profess to love so much.

If you really love a particular brand then save your money or buy a used product from a consignment store.

I don't really care about "insulting a brand," but nor am I interested in buying knockoffs (or the real deal, most of the time).

I buy stuff that's well-made, classic, non-trendy 99% of the time...it's typically not designer, or something that's counterfeit designer. The manufacturer or designer is immaterial to me.

Are we talking about illegal fakes or just "inferior" cheaper brands that "copy the look"? I'd never really buy anything illegal but I have no problem buying the cheaper version of something just because it doesn't have a certain name on it, if it looks good on me that's all I care about.

An "insult to the brand" sounds silly to me - I don't care about the feelings of Juicy Couture (and I suspect Juicy Couture doesn't care about me). Personally I don't wear knock-offs because I think it looks pretty sad to do so. I would rather carry a cheaper purse that I liked on its own over a designer knock-off. Then again, labels don't mean much to me.

I assume we're talking about counterfeit Fendi bags sold by a guy with a folding table on an urban street corner and that sort of thing.

Not a wrap dress from Kohl's, Target or Old Navy that, like wrap dresses everywhere, owes a debt to Diane von Furstenberg, or Nine West patent leather pumps from DSW that are styled similarly to Louboutin patent leather pumps from Saks but cost $70 instead of $700.

Exactly. Caring about "insulting" a merchandiser seems ridiculous. They make money. They're not in it for the art.

Yes. It looks like it's important to you to be seen with something that some people will think is designer. Which is something I could care less about. If it WERE important to me, I'd just wait for a good deal on a real label.

Yep. I buy stuff based on what looks good, has staying power, is well-made, and in a price range I deem acceptable. If I found something that was a high end label that I liked and was discounted to a price I could accept, I would probably get it. But I wouldn't overextend myself BECAUSE of something's label.

Yeah, clothes, shoes, and accessories are not fantasy items for me. I suppose that makes a big difference.
