Love those shoes. It was my staple back in high school with rolled up jeans and no socks. Very comfortable shoes. Even back in the 90s they were somewhat expensive. Think I paid something like $79.00 for a pair back then which is a bargain by todays standards.

Hi Lao,

yup, you nailed it.

I'll be wearing Sperry's for years to come. Very comfy and on the high-end as far as price is concerned. But, you get a great high quality shoe.

Leather mocassins? I used to have a pair of dark brown ones made by Dexter when I was in high school. They were cheaper than Sperry, but they had the same slit cut soles for anti-slippage on wet surfaces.

I thought there were a good alternative to sneakers, as far as wearing with casual clothing.

They were called Topsiders or "docksiders".

Haven't worn them in years, but I always loved them. I think it's time to get another pair. Thanks for the reminder.

Into the 70's they were very popular with the same kids who also wore Lacoste tennis shirts.
They didn't leave their neighborhood much.

They're classics... was looking at a pair this past weekend; the price really has remained about the same from the preppy heyday, surprisingly. Not a bad price for something that's versatile and timeless.

I don't know that I'll be pairing them with sweater sets and pearls, or meeting Muffy at the club for brunch after tennis lessons, but they are versatile, durable quality shoes.

Just bought a new pair last weekend. My old ones finally wore out. Cost about the same as the ones I just threw out.....about $80.00. Probably last for another 23 years.

Regards,

LOL. That is kinda like me. But was well after the 70s. It was Sperry Topsiders, polo and Lacoste shirts, Ton-sur-ton (sp) shirts and Guess stuff. Most important thing was to never wear them with socks.

Think I'll go out and get me a pair. Those were some super comfortable shoes.

In my nearly 30 pair collection, three are boat shoes from sperry

But I've been planning to dump nearly 12 pairs out and sort of revamp my collection.
