If you can't handle wearing topsiders or sandals without socks, then stick to long pants. (The same goes for women, BTW.)
Seriously I would be more comfortable being out with a man wearing a skirt than a man wearing socks with shorts.
Really? Isn't that a bit extreme.

It's ridiculous to be such a slave to short-term fashion trends. Right now, it is unfashionable to wear regular socks with shorts. For decades, it was perfectly OK. In fact, as the OP said, ankle socks were considered effeminate and only worn by women.

Styles change, but there's no reason we have to be unconditional slaves to styles when we don't even know why.

And I would prefer not to be seen out with such a vain, judgmental woman.

Always low-cut socks with shorts.

Effeminate my foot. You know I always ask guys who issue such statements if they are damn sure about their manhood and if there is an underlying insecurity beneath their orientation.

Socks popping out is a huge fashion faux-pas and it looks just plain ridiculous and Napoleon Dynamitesome. Good luck with that. I already smell like curry and I don't need calf level socks to screw things up more

Just to clarify... I think men should wear no-show or very low sport ankle socks (e.g. Nike, Under Armour) with tennis shoes and sport shorts ONLY when they are playing sports or running. Otherwise, their shoes would stink and they'd get blisters. I also think it is ok if a guy wears taller crew socks for certain sports (e.g. black crew with basketball shorts).

If a man is not playing sports, I prefer he wear dress shorts with good loafers, sandals or topsiders and NO SOCKS.

I can not picture how pushed down tube socks could ever look good.
