I have not worn a pair of sandals of any sort outside in a long time, but I know one risk of wearing them is this happening -- when the straps snap as you are walking down the street.

Has it happened to you? What's a good way to avoid this? Do most people who wear flip flops carry other shoes as back-up in case this happens.

This has never happen to me, and I'm the flip-flop queen. Try a decent pair, such as BCBG, Havaianas, Nike, or even Fit Flops. I LOVE Fit Flops- not only are they comfortable, but they're good for your arches & feet ....

I get all my summer shoes at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Daffys- and all under 10.00!! The perfect price for a few months ...

It has never happened to me, either, but I can see where it could. I might go get a cheapie pair and stick them in the trunk of my car just in case. I love flip flops!

I don't walk long distances in flip flops, because I don't think they are very good for your feet. I have several pair from Old Navy, and none have broken on me. They've lasted much longer than I expected.

I have no idea where you got that idea.

Flip-Flops Comfy but Beware of Foot Pain

"Unlike sturdy shoes, flip-flops aren't good for extensive walking because they offer no arch support, heel cushioning, or shock absorption, according to the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA). Wearers can suffer foot pain due to lack of arch support, tendinitis, and even sprained ankles if they trip."

Not, 'FLIP' flops,' "FIT' flops.

I love my fit-flops, unlike flip-flops, they offer somewhat of a higher arch support, making them more comfortable to walk in ... Mine are going on their 2 summer, and still love, love, love them !! I have the Sketcher ones.

I can't wear flat flip-flops for a long period of time, they hurt my feet after a while ...

My favs get so ratty looking. Now, when I find a pair I like that is on sale, I buy a couple of them. JCPenney has some great deals when they go on sale.
