Egad, the 70s and 80s were terrible decades for fashion!
3 separate trends.

There were "elephant bells", like bell bottoms only huge.

Parachute pants are actually different from the (M.C.) hammer pants and had to do with the material. The same material used to make parachutes gave the pants their name.

Hammer pants (harem pants) were almost a decade later in the late eighties.
Heavier material was needed to make actual hammer pants so that they would move correctly when the person wearing them (not me!) was dancing.

I wore Chemin de Fer? and Red Snap jeans Aynsley Dunbar and I showed up backstage wearing the same style Chemin de Fer jeans. All very androgynous my fashion heroes in my teens.

On Topic: since hockey shirts were referred to as Fashion ......
I'll choose one of my least favorite trends as Tevia hiking sandals, or are they sport sandals. then add socks eek!

Part of the reason that the Jennifer Aniston "Rachel" long, layered bob/shag was so popular for so long (variants of it are still commonly seen, though now they're more likely to involve more deliberate bangs) was that it flatters a wide range of facial shapes. Any stylist will tell you that.

To answer the question about which decade had the worst styles...the 70s by a landslide.

Styles I wish would go away...and maybe these were mentioned, I didn't read all 19 pages...

Little girls' clothes that make them look like hoochie mamas. They're kids...dress them like kids. No child of 8 should have the word, "Juicy" on her derriere.

I don't know what these are called but I think they are hideous...womens sandals with laces up the legs making them look like Gladiators.

Capri pants for men....no. Just no.

Birkenstocks with socks. It's been going on for far too long.

And most will hate on me for this one because they are so popular and everyone but me seems to like them: I cannot stand Crocs. UGLY.

And most importantly: Clothes that do not fit. If you are a size 14, just wear a size 14. You are not fooling anyone by squishing yourself in to a size 5. Wear clothes that fit and flatter your figure.

They're called Gladiator sandals. Seriously. I think they're hideous too.

I also hate the stick-straight hair thing. It makes those of us with naturally curly hair (who LIKE it that way) feel weird. Like everybody looks at us as if we're refugees of the early 90s or something.
And some of us have naturally stick-straight hair and don't do anything like flat iron it. The current trend is wavy hair though, flat ironed hair was a 00s thing.

I'm with you, especially on sexualizing little girls. If I had a dollar for every mother I wanted to knock some sense into, I'd be so rich, you'd all be calling me Oprah.

They aren't? No wonder when I asked one of my cashiers if she got up too late for work and didn't have time to get dressed she looked at me like I was crazy. She came to work in her PJs for pete sake!

Things/styles I want to get rid of/hate:

1. Wearing flipflops anywhere but the beach or shower/pool
2. thinking there is anything called "dress jeans" - OMG, leave them in the garage or barn!
3. butt cleavage!
4. bare belly sticking out because you're too poor or cheap to buy maternity clothes
5. wearing a brawith straps under a top with straps SMALLER than bra straps.

That long straight hair cut short or tapered right around the face?...I like that hair and always have . It is classy looking at looks good on people with long straight hair like myself.

Really? You feel weard because I have naturally stick straight hair. That is your own personal problem then. If you really loved your curly hair you would not say such thing
