What's wrong with wearing trainers? (full, American, thin, long)

I've noticed a lot of disdain toward the wearing of trainers outside of a gym or a field. Why is that? I'm not saying I'd wear them to a job interview or in an office environment, but otherwise what's the big deal? They're super comfortable.
I've got a pair of boat shoes which are nice but aren't as comfy as my trainers, a pair of desert boots which are pretty good but you can only wear them long pants (or at least I would only wear them with pants) and it's far too hot and humid to be wearing pants. I've also got a pair of dress shoes for my business suit and they aren't something I'd want to walk all over campus with.
What are "trainers"? You so you "notice a lot of disdain of wearing trainers outside of a gym....." who are these folks who show "disdain" against them? You say you "NOTICE A LOT" of disdain? If we are talking tennis shoes then I dont really see a problem. But I do kinda understand. My wife is someone who would ONLY wear tennis shoes if she's actually doing some type of sport. Other than that, its fashinable pumps or flats or something similar.
We call the above tennis shoes here too. Anything in the athletic/trainer/basketball/etc. category gets called tennis shoes!
And there's nothing "wrong" with wearing them out in public. Stylish people will think you're not stylish - but if you can live with that, then so be it. Millions of Americans do so every day!
Personally I'm a lover of flip flops or thongs or sandals. To each, his or her own!
I always think of them as part of the "old lady uniform" -- trainers and a velour jogging suit. I wear them for work (janitorial) but other places I wear Merrills.....
I call them sneakers. I have 2 pairs, and I wear one for work, and the other most of the rest of the time except at home when I'm usually barefoot.
I have dress shoes for dressy occasions and job interviews. Riding boots for riding. Sandals for summer picnics. I prefer to be barefoot when I'm at the beach; I don't own flipflops and think they're tacky-looking, and the "fancy" flip-flops just "tacky in costume" which is even worse.
I call them sneakers. I wear sneakers all the time outside of work, and I don't much care what people think. Sneakers go well with shorts IMO as well as jeans, but I wouldn't wear them with dressier pants.
Hahaha cool! I have them in purple! They are the best. Just wear them you can't please everyone.
