No. These gay guys don't dress like grungy HIPSTERS. They have their own very peculiar flashy way that's like a cross between AA & A/X. And they were obviously gay because they had their arms around each other. This was on Melrose so it's not out of the ordinary or unfathomable.

I think what the OP had in mind are some metro men who layer their clothing, don bright pastel pants and pile on accessories like scarfs, pocket squares & bracelets. You see lots of examples of that in the style forums and lookbooks. It's over the top & way too busy and doesn't jibe with the relaxed feel in most American cities, especially during the hot summer months.

Bottom line it's a USA tradition for men to dress like Cheech and Chong or even Archie Bunker at best.

I've even seen a lot of men dress like Homer Simpson; the classic look with outdated multi-pocket blue jeans and generic shirt with a pot belling hanging out and man-boobs to boot.

it is the year 2011 ans Americans are still as backwards with thinking as they were in the 1600's

I like the grungy hipster look for the hot sweaty foul smelling summers.

Most of the gay guys I have know wear tight pants, or tiny shorts and sleeveless shirts. No dressing up there.

I know dressing well is a matter of personal taste, but you get my drift....
American Culture SUX when it comes to men looking good....As a dude i like competing. Those dudes out in Europe got some swag, but here in the states its just too many tshirts and jeans. Jeans are cool if wore right. Im not gay by a long shot but I feel more comfortable around other men who look as fresh as I do. Its not that jealous vibe women have where they talk about each other and what they were. When I see other men looking good, I give em props mainly because I hate the slob look.

Understanding of what? Not looking good is a trait of a lazy ass....FACT

Personally I not, as men nowadays mostly try to dress well and there is nothing bad

Appropriate attire is a transient thing. I personally skew towards under dressed myself because I tend to subconsciously associate overdressed with "douchey" or "trying too hard" and I always feel self conscious when dressed too well without a real reason for it, but again it depends on where you live, what you do, etc.

Your typical gay guy has more of an eye and pretension for fashion that your typical straight guy though, and so do Europeans. America has become a very un-formal society since the days when you never left the house without a hat.

I wouldn't assume they are gay, but I would assume they probably make more money than me lol. It is also good to hear that people in general don't believe this, because some people might think I'm gay, then.

I commented earlier about how I WOULD assume they are gay mainly from the accessorising. I find this to be totally true.

However, I WOULD NOT think they are gay if they are dressed in nice business attire - tailored suit, nice tie, nice shoes. If I see someone like this I just assume they are a professional and involved in either banking, investments, or is an attorney.
