It has taken me until about a year ago to finally get a couple pair. I'm pretty thin for a 40-something, but I still don't think they are super flattering. I'd rather wear straight-leg, but I don't want to look like I'm wearing mom jeans either. And it's hard to find shoes that look right with them too. Edit: Ha ha! I just saw my post from 2011 where I said they look stupid.
I am a 64-year-old woman who is a size 6 in jeans, but skinny jeans are the ONLY jeans that fit me because of the 2-3% Spandex in them -- I have a proportionately smallish waist to my butt and thighs, so there would be a fairly big waist gap if I wore 100% cotton jeans. I must wear jeans in my job because there is some stock work involved (bending, stooping, lifting) and slacks would not last more than a week. (And, no, I don't have a muffin top.)
I have received no complaints or negative comments about my wearing skinny jeans, but even if I did, I don't think it would bother me too much.

Wow, this is a tough crowd. Lots of opinions here!
I have some skinny jeans, but I buy them in a larger size than I really need. Yes, they still hug the body, but not like a second skin. I am not overweight and I dont have a muffin top. I only wear them with a tunic that covers my tush. They are comfortable, especially for road trips.
Unlike some here, I think they look terrible on super skinny women. I saw someone the other day who was an absolute stick, her legs were unbeleivably thin, and she was wearing them. It emphasized her almost emaciated figure. Somebody give her a milk shake!
I’m not too crazy about skinny jeans (they’re always falling down or bunching at the crotch), but you know what I recently tried and love: jeggings. They’re a mashup of everything that is wrong about skinny jeans and everything that is wrong about leggings... but somehow they’re just right. Soft, comfortable, and when paired with a slightly long top, they look more put-together than leggings.
Oh, and they look super cute on me, inspite of being at the advanced, geriatric age of 40.
They only look stupid on guys and older women (38+ years old). I really think they look ridiculous on the older women
They look ridiculous and stupid if any woman is stuffing 40 lbs. into a 10 lb. bag ! And, very fugly.
.... and what's this baloney about 38+ years of age being an older woman. LOL!
