What is the best acne treatment for a 14-year old girl?

My dd14 is just recently experiencing an outbreak of acne. she's tried a lot of stuff, including cover girl, clearasil, neutrogena.

I tried to encourage her to simply use dial soap, and clearasil.

Does anyone have any experience with the Clinique line for acne? I think its relatively new, I've used clinique products for myself, they are expensive, but high-quality. Perhaps I should get my dd started on Clinique---

has anyone tried it, is it any good?

Also, I'm looking at the Olay products

she says Pro-activ didn't help

Also, I do't believe that garbage about how your skin is supposed to get worse before it gets better, because itsd "drawing the poisons out" that's a crock, there isn't "poision" lurking under your skin's surface waiting to come out, pimples aren't living underground!

Try cutting back on as much dairy as possible...no drinking milk at all.

Dab the existing zits with pure honey...take a little out of the pot by using a spoon then dab with a finger from that.

My brother had really nasty acne until our old Irish housekeeper gave the above advice...she said that the resultant clear skin due to the cessation of drinking milk was nature's way of telling us that we were no longer babies and sure didn't need to be drinking milk!

It worked for my brother and when I got my first zit it sure worked for me.

Thanks, I will tell her, is there any particular kind of honey that works best?

You know, all the hormones they put in milk nowadays certainly doesn't help, but, we've been buying the organic milk, unless they lie!

I had and still occasionally have the worst skin, even as an adult. Pro-Active didn't work for me either, or anything else on the market. Now the dermatologist has me on a Retin-A prescription and the over the counter Cetaphil cleanser. Cutting out dairy products helped a lot for me. Even in my early thirties I still break out with cystic acne when I have a milk shake and think I can get away with it. I'm not lactose intolerant but dairy doesn't do well in my system, organic or otherwise.

I had terrible skin until I was 30. Nothing worked for me. Finally, out of frustration, I started using plain ole rubbing alcohol several times a day. My skin cleared up immediately. I've been using rubbing alcohol for 35 years and have lovely skin.

Your daughter should try Burt's Bee spot acne solution treatment. It really helped me. Amazon.com: Burt's Bees Natural Acne Solutions Spot Treatment for blemishes .26 fl oz (7.5 ml): Health & Personal Care

*Note* This product does sting and burn a little bit for a couple minutes after you apply it to your pimples, but it goes away.

I also found that drinking a glass of water with two teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar three times daily has also helped my skin to clear up.

Did she try the extra strength proactive with all three steps? It took my skin a couple months to get under control but it worked. While its breaking out like that she has to also look at other habits like conditioners, hair stuff, changing pillow cases. Ask her doctor if she can take a zinc supplement and a multivitamin. Those can help with whatever else she uses.

I would spend money on a dermatologist before dumping money into product though. The type of acne it is will determine what she should use. Different breakouts need different things.

Please consider taking your daughter to a dermatologist so she won't end up with scars. There are various medications that can be given, to include pills. OTC stuff may not help her. If you don't have insurance, try using Cetaphil soap with Neutrogena spot treatment. Cetaphil is cheap and many dermatologists recommend it. Clinique is not so great and overpriced for what it is. My dermatologist said to get a better product than what can be found at Department Stores and put me on the Obagi system and it works for me. I highly recommend Obagi Foaming Face Wash. You can purchase it at the dermatologist or online at Skincarerx.com

For a bad case, see a dermatologist. Even if you can barely afford it, do it, it's a huge thing for your daughter.

For a mild case, cetaphil, salicylic acid, and 1.5-3% (no higher! 10% is common because people think higher is better, but, it's not) benzyl peroxide cream.
