A couple months ago , I slipped & landed right on my butt in the process I broke my nail , I mean completly ripped my nail right out of the nail bed , my entire nail was sitting on top of my finger . It was horrible & it hurt like nothing else I felt before . I did however have on arcrylic nails so that made it much worst . I went to the ER got a few shots & the nail re-entered into the nail bed . I was told I had to wait till the nail mends , fall off & a new one to grow in before I could get an arcrylic nail put back on that finger . The thing is I am in LOVE with arcrylic nails ... I know I know what most are going to say ... arcrylic nails are not good for my natural nails but I cant help it im young ... however I do take EXTRA pre-caution when it comes to my nail care ... I only go to one nail salon , that way I know the nail tech's & they know me which elimates alot of confusion when it comes to my nails & what I like (& the fact that I know they clean their tools is an added bonus ) ; I get a new arcrylic set every 3 months to elimate the chance of getting any bacteria & before a new set I always take the nails off & buff and cleanse my natural nails a week before I get them done ... its like giving my nails a breather ! to say the least Ive been wearing arcrylic nails since I was 18 and Ive never gotten a infection or even a ingrown nail ! Every since I broken my nail I havent gotten any arcrylic nails & its driving me CRAZY ! Everytime I think about getting them done the fact that my one nail will be unable to get pampered bothers me ... like how will I look with a fresh new pink & white full set with one nail broken down to the skin ? It just bothers me but it bothers me more to have to look at my natural nails day in & day out . Im at the point where I am going to get a full set arcrylic & put a bandaid over my broken nail ... do you think I should wait it out til the nail grows back & get them all done or should I just make my dreams come true by getting them done now ...?

I would do the full set in a very short sport length in a french or american manicure and then wear a bandage or gauze wrap over the broken nail.

^^OUCH! That sounded painful! Sorry to hear this!

I would allow the nail to heal (assuming it hasn't) and breath a bit. Afterwards, go to your nail technician and have them put on a new set.

Best!

I would do a short Shellac nail on all the others and a band aid on the broken one.
I like Shellac so much more than my old acrylics and found it to be almost as strong, just as nice looking and costs less (shop around prices really vary).

I just took everything off to let my nails breath but the Shellac was really great. I'm never going back to acrylics!

^^^I just started doing the colored gel on my natural nail and I have to say that I LOVE them as well. Does not harm my natural nail. I don't have issues with my natural nail growing, but I HATE chipped nail polish so I opted for Shellac! Lasts for 2-3 weeks.
