I recently just started using eyeliner (Avon glimmerstick) and it has been giving me eyeaches. I'm not allergic to it. Is eyeliner something I just have to get used to? Do you usually get headaches the first few times you wear it? Could it be the brand?
I don't use it heavily. I apply it lightly (I don't like makeup that's too dark).

if you are absolutely sure it is the eyeliner causing your aches, no, that is not normal. you don't have to get used to eyeliner and it should never irritate your skin. you're probably having an allergic reaction. it might be brand specific, it might be product specific, it might be eye makeup in general.

Stop using the eyeliner, try for a different type or brand. I have liquid eyeliner, but I don't use it much because it stings my eyes (it has to be some kind of fume from it because none of it actually spills in the eys). I usually use mechanical or pencil eyeliner, and they never sting like liquid does to me.

Fragrances, especially the ones added to some cosmetics, give me headaches. Did you check the ingredient label?

I also can't wear liquid liner as any brand seems to make my eyes water, even the "hypoallergenic" ones.

Glimmersticks has a lot of different ingredients, which vary depending on the color. If yours contains mica, you should know that it's a known eye irritant. Even if you're not allergic to it, you could still get irritation from it. It also has several types of wax and dimethicone (among others) and any of these things -can- cause discomfort. Most people are unaffected by it. Some have sensitivities, though an actual allergy to wax and dimethicone isn't common.

I have a sensitivity to certain waxes in "smudge-free" waterproof eyeliners, and a very mild allergy to mica. Unfortunately, I also don't have much in the way of eyelashes, and have to use a smudge-free eyeliner or else it can look pretty gruesome after a few hours. So I put up with a little burning feeling for around a half hour after I put it on, and I'm usually fine after that.

Eyeliner shouldn't cause headaches. Try a different brand.
