They used to sell those really huge makeup kits with small amounts of a couple dozen different things for like nothing to get the girls to try a specific brand of make up. I probably bought three of them for nieces 20 years ago. Do they still do that? I think the very top brands of department store makeup did it. Does anyone know?

I think you can still find makeup kits at stores like Ulta or Sephora.

Yeah, but they're not the big box sets that were once sold in the 80s & 90s. They tend to be more specific, like lip or eyes only.

My all time favorite big-box set was by Ultima II "The Nakeds" back in the early 90s. This post inspired me and I just found and purchased one of my favorite shadow palettes by Ultima II! (man, I miss Kevyn Aucoin!!! )

Does it still exist? I remember only Penny's carried it here, but I haven't been paying attention...

I think Ulta carries Ultima II, but I don't think it's what it used to be. This is what I just purchased, which looks like one of the palettes I had back in the 90s (it was a set of 4). I hope it's original and not a more current palette.

Target has a bunch of collection sets starting at around $10 and up - the most comprehensive of the ELF brand I think is only $33.00
Jemma has a "backstage" kit for $35
Sephora has a "blockbuster" kit including 96 eye shadows, 84 lip glosses, 6 cream eyeliners, 2 liner pencils, 3 blushes, bronzer, mascara, and 4 applicators. It's $50.00
Sephora also offers "Tarte the starlet" and "Two Faced" collections for around the same price.
Sephora is also presenting a LORAC jewelry box filled with eye and lip palettes plus bronzer and liners for around the same price.

I like the Ulta and the Sephora kits. Thanks all for the great info. I have a charming little grandniece from China who I think would like one of these.
