My daughter has developed very oily skin lately. She has to constantly blot her face with a napkin or paper towel. It used to just be her nose. Now it's all over. Today, I thought she had on some kind of lotion but it was just that her face was super oily.

What can she do to prevent this? She washes her face 2x daily and uses an astringent afterwards. Is there anything else she can use to prevent the oil?

Well this is my advice. My skin is dry from years of using hot water and soap on my skin. If your daughter does this and avoids putting on lotion afterwards, her face will become drier. Another method is getting a cloth dipped in cold water and putting it on her face for 5 minutes everyday.

i would try using a light moisturizer after the astringent. theoretically, skin gets oily as a result of it being too dry. it's different for everyone, though, so she will need to experiment to see what works for her. some people need certain cleansers, toners, and moisturizers. some people need to ditch the products and just cleanse with warm water. try one routine for a few weeks, if the condition of her skin doesn't change or it gets worse, try something else for a few weeks.

I'd probably ease up on the astringent...possibly even cut it out altogether.

Try improving her diet, exercise, and drink plenty of water. Some people are just genetically programmed to produce more oil, not much you can do.

I also find natural soaps, that don't contain any additives for scent or lather, much less harsh on the skin. Look for soap that says "saponified olive oil" . It might not smell ideal, but it definitely feels much better.

Sephora: Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15: Acne/Blemish Control

I agree she may be stripping her skin with her current method.

Your daughter has to change her diet. She should try eating nothing but raw salads for several days (4 - 5 days), and stay away from the sugary (25mg +) drinks.

Isn't washing her face twice a day a little overboard? Maybe it's just me, but my skin can only tolerate it once a day or it causes all kinds of issues.

Over doing it can cause just as many problems as not doing it at all....
