Banana Republic, The Loft, Express and New York and Company are my favorite stores for business casual.

So I put it on and the pants won't go past the my thighs. Later on it dawned on me

You didn't mention Dillard's, but they have a brand of pants called "Investments" that come in short, regular and tall, are machine washable and last forever. They usually cost $30.

Look for a store that sells dickies for women. They have cuts that are not just worker man pants. They last and are pretty cheap. Best part...pull them out of the dryer and little to no ironing work. They also don't seem to take on dinge how a lot of cotton can and you have to soak every once inawhile if you are not religious about sorting laundry every time. (who hasnt thrown a navy t in with some pale khakis?..Lol)

Dickies® Stretch Twill Pant : dickies : workwear & scrubs : jcpenney

^^^^ those with a little blouse and jacket + cute flats.

I've had luck with The Limited for work pants that stand up to multiple washings.

NY & Company has several different cuts in several different fabrics that come in 3 lengths as well as Misses and Petites, they often have sales, but figure about $40-$45 full price. LL Bean also makes a good, basic durable washable trouser in 3 different cuts and many lengths. Not many brick-and-mortar stores for them, but a good shipping policy.

Cotton twill is nice and durable, as long as you don't shrink the bejeebies out of it. Cute pants.
