I wear a leather jacket whenever I ride a motorcycle or ATV. I had a low speed accident on my sportbike once when I wasn't wearing one and my right side/back was hamburger from my hip to my shoulder. Cow skin 'wears' a lot better than my skin on pavement.
Aside from that I really only wear the jacket when I am walking my dog in the rain or snow or something and don't want to get my nice coat wet/muddy. I would never wear it to work or to a social activity other than hiking or shooting with old friends. People that wear shiny pretty leather because they think it makes them look tough make me laugh. Wallet chains, leather jackets with music or political patches, and combat boots were a big part of the poser uniform back in high school, and it is just embarrassing when a grown man tries to pull it off.
I generally like them. I only wear mine in the fall or spring. I have a shiny black (zipped and belted), and two suede (a hot pink bomber and a buttoned, beige v-neck). I've made use for all of them, but the pink one is my favorite.
However, I don't wear them as much as I did in the past, because I more recently became interested into wool and (faux) fur style coats.
I don't think anything different about the people who wear them, but it does remind of this guy, who always wore it well.
I look at leather jacket wearers differently. It appeals to the overly-sensitive and thin-skinnned types, it offers, psychologically, an extra layer of skin!
I just bought my first leather watch during Christmastime at JCPenney. If I remember correctly, it was 30% off. Anyway, I tried one on, it fit me like a glove and was very comfortable so I bought it. I've received a lot of compliments on it.
Sadly, it rarely gets cold where I live so I can't wear my jacket too often. I miss it.
i think it depends on the texture of the leather. i used to wear an old rawhide jacket, and I would wear that still, if I found a good/inexpensive one.
But "shiny" leather? Nah, not for me. Works fine for slash, though.
