I think I have seen a few posts from people here on the boards that have a 28 band or similar. I wear one of those difficult sized bras, but I am currently in a pretty standard band. But I also know, that if I lose a dress size or 2 I am pretty close to leaving the standard sizes. (My sister is a 32 band at size 14...so as you can imagine, it doesn't really take much to be below 32. I wouldn't be surprised if the true number was 25%)

So I was pretty excited about this project on one of the blogs I follow.

The Bra Band Project Results: All the Lovely 30 Bands and Under | StackDD+

The idea is to prove that "real" women wear bands below 30. And they are taking a photo gallery of women, and also have a petition I believe. So yo can contribute, or participate if you like, FYI.

I've already sent my photo in, and submitted it as 26F, the size I actually measure as but is not commercially available.

Ladies, take a measuring tape and measure how big around you are right under your bust. That is your band size (if you measure an odd number, try the size up or down). Don't add 4 or 5 inches, don't pull the tape up under your armpits, just measure how big around you actually are in inches. For most women, that's probably not the band size they've been wearing.

Geez, I'm one broad ribbed b itch. Even if I dropped down to 120, I'd still have a 32 band. I'm shocked at how heavy some of these women look in photos, but yet their band measurements are small.

In my experience, "top heavy" women tend to have bigger bands. I.e. apple shaped, swimmer types, or the inverted triangle bodies. And bottom heavy women (and hourglasses) tend to have smaller bands.

Not sure if it was linked in my blog post, but it was pretty interesting. one of those bloggers did a survey and about 60% of women who were "overweight" or "obese" had under a 38 band. But the plus size stores and brands start at 38.

Based on measurements alone, I'm hourglass, but I consider myself broad, more straight/rectangular looking. I'm just shocked at the weight some of those women carry around their mid & back section, yet they're still so tiny measurement wise.

They are either very short, or very full of it. One of the two. LOL

Nah, most people just don't put much weight on their ribs so band size mostly comes down to ribcage size, and there's nothing you can really do to change that. So while your hips and boobs and stomach expand as the weight piles on, your band changes at a much slower rate.

My measurement will never go below 36...even when I was around 115 lbs I still had a solid 36" band size. I have a giant ribcage and my doctor told me my lungs are nearly 20% larger capacity than normal

I don't understand how to measure band size. Right below my breasts its 30 inches. If I measure at the nipple line its 33. So I should buy a 32c bra?
Thing is,I tried on a 38b bra,but the cups were too big.
I then tried a 32d and my breast didn't fit in the cups.

34c bras fit well, but then the straps, even if I tighten them, hang off my shoulders.
Wonder what that means?

As I looked at the photos,a lot of women on there don't look like they have small ribcages.
The woman who claims she is a 30G looks like a C cup to me.
