I have either very dressy shoes with wood soles or very casual shoes like Clarks Dessert boots and boat shoes. I don't want to wreck my nice dressy shoes wearing them every day plus their uncomfortable since I take the DC metro to work and walk alot. Also wearing Dessert boots or boat shoes look silly wearing a shirt and tie sometimes.

I'm leaning towards some of the newer Rockports, since they've updated their style and are less hideous looking than the bulky dress/sneaker hybrids my dad used to wear in the 90's. Any other suggestions?

Johnston & Murphy has a line of shoes in the $100 - $130 range that are quite comfortable. I believe they're marketed with the young urban professional in mind. They work well with business casual attire or even a suit.

Many of my doctor friends wear Rockports because they're on their feet all day & the shoes are semi-orthotic. Cole Haan also has Nike air soles in their shoes. The trick is to buy a half size up because your feet swell during the day & tight dress shoes will kill you if you have to run or stand for long periods on your commute home. Also take a look at suede brogues/wingtips. Suede has more give & thus more comfort. You can go for full suede or suede/leather combo which are totally on point.

Ecco's shoes are really comfortable. They have similar technology to the Nike Air Cole Haan uses.

I'm not sure if they're comfortable, but Sperry's shoes are cheap. They have other shoes besides boat shoes.

I'm looking for something more on the dressy side than business casual. Something that would look decent with a shirt and tie.

I do like Cole Haan, but they're a bit pricey. Timberlands and Sperrys are too casual.
