Haha it is just a trend that comes and goes. I wore them on my thumb in highschool and early college. Pinky rings were big too. Around here it's the middle finger. Dunno why.

If they turn up in a fashion magazine or on a celebrity, they become popular again.

A lot of celebrities wear them, including Julia Roberts, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and most notably (right now) Kristin Stewart.

I don't know if you've noticed, but she's the star of the biggest fattest movies and tv out at the moment, and is the highest paid woman in hollywood. She is everywhere, so is her thumb ring.

I occasionally wear my late hubs wedding ring on my thumb. Code for "that's the only digit it fits".

Yeah, I know 3 lesbians who wear the thumb ring.

Back in the day, rings on fingers was a staple for porno chicks.

Man, I miss the 80's!!

It used to be that if you only wore one ear ring and that was in your right ear, you were gay. And then scads of people started doing it "just because."

Why should I 'check it out' before wearing?

A) I don't think anyone is going to mistake me for a lesbian anytime soon.
B) Who the **** cares if they do?
