Am I just old-fashioned, or is it a turn-off to women to see 40-ish, or worse, grey-haired guys dressing in all black skateboard clothes, or even carrying a skateboard with them? I don't mind regular shorts and t-shirt, but this boardie uniform seems really out of place after a certain age. I've seen guys in this garb try to pick up women in business suits. It doesn't go over well. Is the idea of more or less age-appropriate clothing passe? Is there a psychology about this, is it an attempt to recapture, or cling desparately to a faded youth? Or just personal preference? What to the ladies think, have you run into this phenomenon?

Yeahhhh I don't think Tony Hawk can pull it off anymore either, let alone some 40-something wannabe at the mall.

I just pulled out my skater clothes from years ago. I haven't worn them for literally years. I'm in my mid-20s going through what to keep and chuck out. Should I just chuck it all out since I'm old now?

To each his own. If a 40 year old man still skates then good for him. I don't think hobbies should be limited by age.

As for dressing a certain way I have no problem with that. Every so often my teenage daughter (13) will surprise me with something she bought for me with her own money. Sometimes it's clothes. Teenage girls like to shop in stores like Buckle. You will not find a conservative men's shirt in that store. I will happily wear that shirt because it means something to me, and it makes her happy.

It's no different in my opinion from a 40 year old who wears light wash dad jeans, an oversized dress shirt, and sneakers.

Basically, not good.

I'd think it depends on the 40+ year old person wearing it as not all 40+ year olds are the same. Some 40 year olds look young enough to pass for mid/late 20s, other 40 year olds look their age, and other 40 year olds look 50-60.

A 40 year old who looks mid/late 20s (or even very early 30s) can probably get away with wearing that kind of outfit without looking odd.

Those who have never seen a 40+ yr old dude dressed up in skater wear or riding a board obviously hang out at the wrong malls.

I saw one a few days ago. I just looked at this dude and shook my head. I could only hope that at 11am on a weekday, he is already retired and being an eccentric and not hustling his way from Mom's basement to his job at Wal-Mart.

I know a girl who is as close to a 10 as I'll ever work with, smart girl, marketing degree, making bank, and she's dating some dude almost in his mid-40's, and he spends an inordinate amount of time skating (and surfing and getting tats and playing video games and managing to work a job in there most of the time), so, yeah, I guess some women do find that kind of stuff hot.
