"It tells women you are either sexy or you are not a woman," she said, adding that many women operate in the role of police officer, nurse or maid in real life every day."
Hmmm…I'm just a dumb guy but why not just go buy some legit, non-sexy nurse scrubs or the like for quite possibly LESS than an official "costume."
I apologize, just using my guy logic here. Help me understand
Hell NO! I'm putting on my sexy little red riding hood costume as I type this. Last night I was a sexy super hero. Next week sexy Mermaid...love it! I like sexy....

There are always options, and if any grown woman is too silly to think that sexy Halloween costumes displayed in a store attack her self worth or womanhood, then... well... that's just unfortunate. Lots of women LIKE being sexy, especially on a holiday when she can dress up and get away with it without reflecting badly on her family or professional life, perhaps.
I hate that homemade costumes are in serious decline, at least around here. They're a lot more fun. And I do dislike how sexy some younger girls are done up for Halloween, but that's a parenting issue more than a marketing one, in my opinion.
No, the real question in why adults need to get involved in Halloween as in participation in dressing up. Grown people, dressed up like shanks.
Yeah, I see it as a kid's holiday. Except maybe for college students, just to goof around. I don't know how or when it transitioned to being for adults as well. Maybe it was just another marketing ploy. Another way to sell holiday-themed crap.
It sounds like the people pushing costumes for adults are missing out on a huge market for moms who want to get into the spirit with their kids, and accompany their kids trick-or-treating, though. Moms who can't find decent outfits should think about creating their own costume company as a home-based business. They can start out local, and see where it goes. Sounds like there's a big niche need for it.
