Men are willing participants and contributors in this game.
Women aren't obsessed because of what they see in the media. The media reflects what we value and expect out of women, it starts far earlier than when you are exposed to pop culture. Women come out of the womb being judged on their appearance. Men have the fortune of not being limited in this way.
the bolded is a complete lie. Why do women blame magazines and the modeling industry for eating disorders and negative body image. Seriously, whenever there is a super thin model, all I hear its contributing to the an urealistic body images. women bring it upon themselves.

Yes, blaming men for being anorexic. More victims is just what the world needs.

when women quit complaining about how thin models are in the fashion industry, and blaming being anoerxic on wanting to achieve a certain body image, i'll start criticizing men.

What you don't realize is that this starts before you are old enough to consume media. It is embedded in the value system we have created for our children.
Why are 6 year olds interested in being "thin" and "pretty." They aren't reading vogue or Cosmo. They are watching Dora the Explorer.
It starts before kids understand enough about the world to reject the premise that women are defined by their beauty. Little girls are defined by their beauty by age 2.

and yet amazingly, men don't seem to have this obsession with having a six pack like women have with being thin. Again, its nothing but excuses. You can decide to reject the image that "society(other women)" project on you. nobody put a gun to your head that you need to puke after you eat, or only eat 400 calories a day. Its simply just lazy to blame the media for your own mental problems.

Are you suggesting that girls (&boys) only develop anorexia as a quest to be thin as models are portrayed in the media?

Because men aren't valued based in their looks. It gets you nowhere having a six pack. Becoming "prettier" for women leads to getting paid more, promoted more etc.

This is it, exactly. The pretty girls get treated MUCH better growing up than the unattractive ones, who get ignored or ostracized. They simply have more opportunity. I can actually remember the exact moment I started caring about what I looked like and started judging my body and it was way back in 6th grade. That stuff sticks with you. It had nothing to do with the media or tv either.
I have a friend who has three kids (2 girls and a boy) and the girls are 7 and 9. Whenever we go out, the older girl gets tons of compliments (she has really pretty curly blonde hair and is quite pretty, while the younger sister is fairly plain looking) and it breaks my heart to see the older sister get compliments from strangers while the younger sister gets completely ignored. This stuff stays with you for life.

like i sad before, when women quit blaming the media, we'll talk. Seriously, nobody puts a gun to your head to listen to the media about how you should look.
