Again, only in America. I don't know of another society that is anywhere near as superficial like this. It's a pity that people give into it, because it just feeds the misery even more and makes it tougher for regular/non-superficial people to even exist among the sheep.

I'm sure America will be the first country in the world to try to create a race of beautiful people. Sad really - beautiful country, but an ugly society (an ugliness that has nothing to do with physical appearance).

I don't want to give into the superficial.
However,I do have to live in this society, which means I have to go along with it.

It seems in the past people weren't so concerned with appearance, before TV anyway.

I just think that it's unfortunate that you have to feel that way. I would be interested to see what you actually look like, because I'd be willing to bet money that I'd find zero wrong with your appearance. It's just that you live in the most superficial society on earth (at least in my experience). It's one of the reasons why I plan on leaving at some point.

dragonborn....where are you from?

by the way, is the US the most popular place for plastic surgery. I know a lot of people travel to South America for work but I wonder how many of those clients are only Americans?

I know it's big in countries like Brazil, but Brazil generally isn't as superficial / materialistic. I've seen the beaches in Rio - you get all sorts, all shapes, all sizes and people wearing clothing (men and women) that would be shunned over here. I just meant that the US is the most superficial culture that I have experienced, and I've done quite a bit of traveling and was born in the UK, where I lived for much of my life. I think it goes too far over here and women in particular are pressured too much to look a certain way.

The US more superficial than a continent where it's not looked askance upon to have plastic surgery at the age of 12? People here who would allow their 12 year old to have plastic surgery would be "shunned" by the majority of Americans.

South America. I know many Brazilians and Columbians who have gotten surgery before the age of 14, which is completely unacceptable in the US.

Uhhh..no LOL at least in America the guy legally has to stick w/ women over 18... Caribbean, African, French, Spanish (from Spain...but probably Latin American men, as well), Italian and...It isn't worth it to continue. They're all pretty much on equal footing when it comes to cheating with younger women.

I was surprised to find out how WEALTHY a lot of supermodels are. I guess it pays to be beautiful. I think if you're close to the ideal of beauty, but missing it by "a nose" so to speak, it makes sense to get plastic surgery.

Although the husband may cheat on you...better to get cheated on by a guy with $$.

This is just bull****. First of all you are insulting the people of an entire continent when you said this:

"is the US more superficial than a continent where it's not looked askance upon to have plastic surgery at the age of 12? People here who would allow their 12 year old to have plastic surgery would be "shunned" by the majority of Americans."

Don't spew this bull****.

My entire family lives in South America and none of them have gotten plastic surgery except one cousin who got it in her 20s (nose job) and she is a nut case anyway who has serious jealousy problems w/her husband.

Of all the South Americans I know and from living in Miami which is 60% Hispanic, most of the people I know who have gotten plastic surgery are Americans.

South American women are just blessed with curves so when you see one with a butt or breasts out of proportion with everything else don't automatically assume it's surgery. We don't need surgery to be good looking, why do you think the most Miss Universes come from Venezuela?
