Incredibly interesting answers that is why I love all of you ladies, you tell it like it is. I will however admit that I am a bit surprised because all the answers so far are in favor of natural nails because I see nail salons everywhere but I am glad to see ladies who like natural nails although I am all for whatever women do to look beautiful.

I had acrylic nails once, for my 8th grade formal.... they lasted about 3 days before I broke most of them off.

Apparently, engine oil and general automotive/aircraft chemicals do not mix well with fake nails

I don't get manicures or pedicures and I only wear colored polish on my toenails and clear on my fingernails. My nails are a hot mess, unfortunately.

My nails are thin and flat and broad -- thanks Daddy! I keep them shortish and unpolished and rather squared off, since that's natural looking for me. When I need them to grow I pull out Nail Envy and slap a few coats of that on. A few weeks later my nails are over the fingertips, which is about as long as I can take. The polish keeps my nails from drying out from water (I'm a janitor and do my own housework) and so they are a weensy bit stronger...

But that doesn't last too long -- my nails are also a hot mess.

I do my own pedicures -- right now the color is Essies Lapis of Luxury. Love it.

I am in the natural camp too. And I can't stand long toe nails. It looks funny in my book. I trim mine the minute they get to the edge od my toes.

I tend towards reds/oranges/pinks on my toes. For some reason I can't seem to branch into blues and greens. I don't manicures. I jack them up too fast. I really should practice more at home, I think painted nails look nice, but I chip the polish instantly.

Toes, I get pedicures or do mine at home. But it is nice to head to the salon and zone out with a book or magazine.

I wish I was coordinated enough to get my manicure to look like this.

I like natural nails and I almost always wear an american tip (very natural looking, unlike a french tip).

I get them done once every 2-3 weeks and I have them do a gel polish. I'm hard on my hands and the gel polish is a bit sturdier than regular polish and it doesn't chip off.

Natural nails- short and buffed. Colored polish for evening only or beach vacations. Coco Chanel considered long nails to be vulgar and I tend to agree.

Natural looks cleaner and fresher to me. I go for natural. Besides, there is not so much upkeep required
