I asked my wife this question about bra's out of idle curiosity to which she replied that a cheap bra is like any other cheap ill fitting garment.....Ya get what ya pay for.
Then she told me to go back to my book since supper was almost ready.

I am large breasted and I don't wear a bra - EVER! I simple don't care what people think about my hanging girls. I was never comfortable in any bra and decided 5 years ago to rid myself of the harness that made my life miserable.
I am totally convinced that bras were designed by a man. No woman would design something so confining.

That's not me either. I'm told the more you support them the perkier they'll stay over the years. I'd say that's true considering my results compared to my friends who also have NOT had children but don't wear bras or less supportive bras. I wear one almost all the time because they feel better with support as I have fibrocystic breasts. Although lately I've been having a difficult time finding bras that are comfortable for me under the arm. I had a lumpectomy and node removal for breast cancer. The breast doesn't hurt but the bands on certain bras end up making my underarm feel like a razor is being run through it.

I always buy cheap bras, lots of em, wash them in laundry bags. I fail to equate cost with quality in life in general, especially for an item that all works the same way ie holding your boobage in or hoisting it up
For example, I run, a sports bra is just as good at $10 as it is at $100 as long as you get the right type/fit.
My boobs are almost exactly as they were at 16 and I'm old as dirt with 2 kids I breastfed.
NEVER EVER go braless...good advice. I have worn one every day of my life. It makes a huge difference.
The lady who said she doesn't wear one...you'll regret it. Gravity is real and your front half will start to pull you over because your breasts will make you lean forward, or constantly fight to stay upright. If they're big, thats a couple of kilos right there pulling on your spine and shoulders all day. You will at the very least get back pain, at the worst you'll end up bent in two like a walking stick.

I have been wearing Playtex 18 hour bras (not the comfort strap or special cups, just the regular lace wirefree ones with the non-stretch straps) since I was 13 and became a D. I am now a DD. I know other women who wear "pretty bras" and are D and DDs. I have been asked several times by women (never men ) over the years what kind of bra I wear - because their daughter, sister, friend, themselves, etc need something that holds them up and still - and doesn't produce mini muffin tops. I wait for JMS sales online and buy 2 to 3 new ones every 6 months. I wash them in the machine in a bag, on cold, delicate cycle and NEVER use fabric softener or the dryer.
They cost me about $15-20 each. I also wear sleep/comfort bras around the house and to bed at night. A good one is Comfort Choice, and those cost me about $20-25 each.
I've tried pretty, underwire sets with matching panties, but have found that they're only good if I'm wearing them to be alone with my husband, not leaving the house and not doing any activity more strenuous than eating dinner. Considering the cost, the underwire and the fact that dh would prefer I not wear one at all when we're alone, it's not worth it.

LOL!
They mean you need to go up a cup size.
What annoys me is differing measurements for the same size. I can by a C cup in one bra but I need a D in another
Even from the same BRAND sometimes.
I too like my girls supported and never even feel a bra. Just what you get used to I suppose.

LOL maybe not in the cradle.
I can still remember my my taking me for my first bra.
It was sooo exciting for me. I loved finally getting some, I think I was a little bit of a slow developer.

LOL. I think she most likely everyday since she started to develop. I would assume she wasn't wearing a bra when she was a child.

Yeah, when I'm sitting at home and not actually -doing- anything, I take the bra off. But if I have to walk, the muscles pull from the ribcage and it causes a whole lot of discomfort. I'm not merely big - I'm also dense, so my girls are heavy. The bras I wear tend to be more girdle-ish than pretty. Side support bars, minimum of 3 and sometimes 4 hooks in back, wide straps, high cleavage, underwire with padded wires, and at least one layer of lining, if not a whole middle layer of cushion.
I have shopped at Walmart and actually found a sports bra that I could wear to the gym comfortably. It's an underwire, with light cushioning, and it was only some ridiculously low price like $6. It's a Champion, of all things, and it came in my size, which is remarkable for a sports bra (36DDD, or 36F, in European sizing).
My "regular normal wear" bra is currently a Lilyette, with wide padded straps and side-bands built onto the cups themselves. Also underwire, this one was maybe $24.00, got it at a bra shop in a retirement village in Florida.
My "expensive uber-quality" is an Elomi, which I believe is made in the UK. They're sold at Nordstroms, and this line is designed specifically for "full figured" women. This one put me out $55.

At the moment, my go to brands are Freya and Panache. Freya is a bit trendier ($50-60). Panache ($60-70) is more classic, but not many styles fit me. Mostly balcony style only. I like Fantasie ($80-90), but I have been too cheap to buy these lately. The Freyas and Panaches tend to go on clearance often at Nordstrom, since they release new colors for every season.
Anonchick mentioned Elomi. I can't wear those, they are "too much bra" for me. They mostly make full cup styles, and I have a really short torso. They come up so high on me, I can only wear a boatneck top with it. Scoop necks leave me with a visible bra, since those cover about 90% of my breasts. Bra fit is very depenednt on your shape. Someone full on top will like a different fit than someone who has a different breast shape.
The most comfortable bra ever for me was a Le Mystere, I randomly picked up on clearance. Oddly, other than the style I picked, no other bra fit well.
The worst? Fayreform. These were digging in immediately and never improved for me. I was probably just the wrong shape for it. The side support boning was completely uncomfortable for me.
I recommend keep trying until you find a bra brand that fits you well. I know that if I get the right size, Freya bras are always comfy and a good fit for me. Panache's take a few wears and a break-in period. Then they are comfortable.
