I was pleased to see the two US girls on the Floor exercise having NEAT hair last night. The Maroney girl had a nice neat ponytail, and Aly Raisman (who won) had an odd-shaped, yet NEAT bun, with no pieces sticking out all over like they all had last week.

And PLEASE, no, this has NOTHING to do with RACE. How would a person even THINK that?????

We were posting here about the whole US team, and many of the women from the other countries as well having sloppy hair. Most of them, to my recollection, were caucasian.

Race card dealt.
You and a few others mentioned Gabby, not me. I am talking about all of the girls. Here's your card back.

Exactly. But it's useless to try to explain this to people who are intent reading into opinions what is not there in the first place.

I don't recall anyone singling out a specific gymnast, black or otherwise. Except for this post.

Because some persons are intent upon pushing agendas and/or proving how "diverse" they are.

Maybe if the lot of them had big hunks of spinach and broccoli in their teeth, but I didn't see anything like that.

Like it or not, Americans are famous for being slobs. As a general rule, we just do not care for our appearance.

Do other nations look down on us for it? You bet.

At least we have good gymnasts.

Again, our problem with the ponybuns was not a beauty thing, it was a neatness thing, in a sport that has presentation as part of its expectations. Other sports don't have this as part of the whole package, but gymnastics does.

I would never post about the girl with the thick waist, or a strangely wide neck, or an assymetrical face, (I saw all of those things) as those are things that are part of the person that they really can't help. But hair being messy, that's completely under the person's control. Earlier in this thread someone refered to Gabby Douglas as a "flying squirrel," I guess because of her cute round cheeks and large teeth (but I think she's really pretty) and no one jumped on that person. I thought that was much more cruel than talking about her hair being sloppy. That's the kind of criticism that is hurtful, not a comment about presenting oneself neatly.

I honestly couldn't care less when it comes to how their hair is done. They're flying around and doing things that I couldn't do... I think my hair would get all messed up too if I were doing what they are doing.

It's not important, it's not the big picture.

And if this is classified as sloppy.... go to Wal-Mart.

Shoppers in Walmart are not performing an artistic presentation in front of millions of people (at least not to their knowledge).
