Front loaders are a newer style of washing machine where the door is in the front vs old style where the clothes were thrown in from the top - front loaders tumble your clothes while washing them (much like a dryer does) and don't have an agitator so your clothing is treated a little more gentle...

Back to old school actually. I agree the front loads are much nicer. ANY new washer is nice though..lol.

But you still must be careful:
