Ok, so don't really try that. But new research suggests that it may be caused by a sensitivity to mites that live in our pores. Most people don't have a reaction, but others may apparently be sensitive to their feces collecting in the pores. Quite a read:

Rosacea may be caused by mite faeces in your pores - health - 30 August 2012 - New Scientist

I haven't read your article but I did read one the other day that said we have more mites than everybody else, not so much a sensitivity but the sensitivity theory makes more sense since it seems to affect those of germanic heritage, as I am. I only coconut oil for moisturizer and I think that helps. I'm wondering if I should stick some tea tree oil in that.

That guy in Ireland may have just figured it out, but that theory has been around for a long time.

If you really have rosacea, stepka, you need Metrogel. There's other prescriptions, too. But if you don't treat it, it will get worse and can also move into your eyes.

It isn't all about looks here.

And treating it is forever. I can miss a day here and there, but especially right now with my hot flashes, gotta treat it. It's SO not a big deal. I take a tiny bit of Metrogel and pat it on the rosacea spots (my cheeks next to my nose, and my chin) let it dry and then on goes the moisturizer. Since I'm usually doing this after I shower, I do the metrogel first thing and then go on to moisturize my body and put on deodorant, and powder and then start on my hair... and then if nessecary, I use my blowdryer on my face set on COLD.

Seriously a tiny bit. A tube lasts me a year and a half and I use it practically every day.

If the redness is bothering you, IPL works rather well.

I guess I'm confused as to what you mean by the rosacea spots. I don't get the pimples, just the redness and the redness is pretty even, not blotchy. I used to get the pimples but have had none since I started to use coconut oil, since products that aren't natural tend to make me get these big ugly zits on the side of my face. Sunscreen does that too so I wear a hat on normal days and will use sunscreen and hat only on canoe float days and then wash it right back off when I get indoors. What is IPL?

What happens when it moves into your eyes? I've been having eye problems lately but I have no idea if it's related to this or not.

Actually, the title gets your attention but you should read the posts. All those who think an explanation is necessary, please raise your hand. Anyone? Bueller? Uh-huh. I thought so.

What happens when it moves into your eyes? I've been having eye problems lately but I have no idea if it's related to this or not.
Your eyes will get very dry and red and feel like there's dust or dirt in them -- gritty. I was lucky -- mine wasn't rosacea but blepharitis -- some sort of thing where I need to use baby shampoo and rub my lashes clean daily. At that time I wasn't wearing eye makeup so when I washed my face I wasn't paying particular attention to my lashes.

My rosacea is limited to the "butterfly" area. Think of your nose as the body of the butterfly -- the wings would be on your cheek area right by the nose directly under your eyes. I may or may not have a rosacea area on my chin -- but my whole face is not affected. So I only put the Metrogel on the affected skin. That's what I meant by spots -- not pimples or pustules -- mine never got that bad.

IPL is Intense Pulsed Light. It's a dermatologist treatment (although I've seen it being done in salons by estheticians -- I don't recommend it that way because it can damage your skin if the person doing it doesn't really know how) using something similar to a laser to reduce the redness in your face. They put a pain reducing cream on your face to numb it, then use this gizmo on it. It really did get rid of my redness, and made me a much happier person. And it didn't hurt too badly -- except on certain places around my nose.

There's other symptoms, too -- like a burning sensation on your face. And not after you put something on. Maybe you ate something hot and spicy and a half hour later, it caused a flare up -- your cheeks feel like they are on fire and even if you put cool water on your face, underneath it's still burning.

Yikes -- flares are NOT fun.

Check out rosacea.org for real info on this. There's a lot of bad info out there trying to sell you stuff for it.

That's exactly what's going on with my eyes Tally'smom. I almost had a retinal tear this summer too and had to go get laser surgery--right in the middle of an important conference! I will certainly look into this.

I use Mario Badescu's control cream for my Rosacea. It's like a miracle cream. I started using everyday since last fall and haven't had one flare-up since then.

Rosacea has been an ongoing problem that I've had for years. I have tried elminiating all the triggers and have used various products with some success. The odd thing about my skin issues is that the red blotchy areas are part of raised skin areas that have a yellowish/orange discharge. I have mentioned this to doctors and other specialists, but the core root of the problem has never been completely solved. My diet isn't the issue as it is already about as severely restricted as possible due to many different factors.
