I have wondered why, especially in the Far East, that women wear bathing suits with short skirts attached to them. I suppose this is for modesty, but isn't this useless as the water thrusts their skirts up, exposing their underwear? Furthermore, wouldn't it restrict the movement of their legs?

I've never seen a far eastern swimsuit. Maybe you should post a link.

Because not everybody is comfortable showing what is under the skirt and maybe that person doesn't want to have a bikini wax. To each her own.

If you don't like it, don't wear one.

Bettie Swimsuit in Black Cherry | Pinup Girl Clothing

This is the only bathing I've owned in years.... I just don't like my butt hanging out of the bottoms of the swimsuits they sell nowadays. I wont' wear a two piece because of a large surgery scar on my stomach.

I like the vintage style that look like a short dress

It all depends on the look you're going for, and how much of your body you want to tan!

I find that skirted suits are a "drag" in the water....very uncomfortable. But, they are quite popular!

As a child/tween in the mid to late 80s, I absolutely loved the bathing suits with little skirts and refused to wear anything else. I was a bit self conscious about my body. It worked very well at the beach. It was fine for playing in the pool, but yes, there was tremendous drag if you were racing in the pool. Now that they've come back in style, along with some vintage styles, I can't wait to grab one again! Personally, its a combination of being a bit self conscious and just liking how it looks. But that doesn't necessarily mean I won't rock a bikini either.
