She sent me a link in a message on facebook trying to convince me to go see this surgeon but I didn't think she was serious. She had lap band surgery but apparently he does everything, including liposuction. I know I'm going to Ft Lauderdale for my aug revision (no way I'd let him touch my chest) but discount lipo would be lovely if this guy wasn't a total quack. Apparently he is accredited in the US and Mexico, which is a plus. Apparently you travel to San Diego, a private driver picks you up and escorts you to Tijuana where you have a stay at a five star hotel all inclusive for a third of what you'd pay in the States. Even though he is an accredited PS in the States, just the thought of traveling to Tijuana, sounds well scary. Wonder if part of it is prejudice that Americans may have concerning Mexico whether they've actually been or not. Trying to stay openminded.

She is now back in Detroit and doing well. She is going to return in 6 weeks and wants me to come with.

Are you serious about getting lipo? WOW

I am unable to see where you would even need this.

This is what can happen when a person obsesses and goes one or two steps too far in the quest for perfection....

Things that concern me about this surgeon:

1. He didn't mind that my friend wasn't accompanied by anyone, either back to the hotel (she had a private driver, but that's not the same thing as a nurse or companion), or on the plane ride home she had to take. My PS wouldn't clear me for surgery unless I had a companion in the cab ride home and someone committed to taking care of me for the next 48 hours. If that person didn't appear, I would be sent home with a nurse and billed for it.

2. My friend's BMI isn't high enough to qualify for weight loss surgery in the States.

Ah Tijuana .. the only city in the world where you can catch a donkey show, or get a back alley handy by a TJ tranny or a smidge of lipo to take care of those stubborn last few pounds.

Run, run far, far away

I don't know about the surgery part, but TJ isn't bad. You don't want to drive your own car there, but going isn't a problem. I wouldn't necessarily want to stay in the city limits but there are cute towns nearby. It is a pretty part of Mexico.

I have met people who have done things like basic and cosmetic dentistry in Mexico since it is way cheaper with good results. Good doctors are good doctors.

But I am very leary of elective surgery on people who don't meet the qualifications. Any surgeon who let's someone who isn't that overweight get weight loss surgery is probably a quack. It isn't risk free or easy by any means.

If you're a legit US surgeon, why would you go to Mexico to do the same surgery for much less of a profit? That's the red flag for me.

Well, I'm assuming hospital fees/equipment cost/staff expenses are significantly lower in Mexico, so I wouldn't necessarily assume the surgeon is drawing significantly less in surgeon's fee terms because he's in Mexico.

Is he doing surgeries that insurance does not cover? Surgeons make a bit of money here in the states and the hospitals have their own fees as well as anesthesiology, lab and pathology, radiology, etc.

I think a physician would stand to make more money in the United States. How is his worked governed over there?

OP you have a very nice body, why are you even considering this? I just wouldn't risk my health and well being to save a few bucks to see a dr in Mexico. If he is a great surgeon in the states, see him here.
