I don't like having polished nails. I hate when they chip and, call me crazy, but they make my fingers feel heavier. Okay, I'm crazy.

I also have weak nails and like to actually live life, so they can't be very long before they be one impractical. I want to be able to open sodas and type and peel an orange and scratch my butt without having to worry about making careful adjustments to avoid harming my nails. They're utilitarian, first and foremost. When they start inhibiting you because of length or nail design, then you need to reevaluate your nail care routine.

I wash my hands very often and my hands and nails are always dry. I am constantly putting on lotion and about once every 2 weeks I rub cuticle oil into my cuticles.

I can't stand my nails long (which for me, is visible above my finger tips) so I clip them often. I am a biter when I'm nervous.

When I take zinc supplements (to reduce duration of or fight off a cold) I notice that my fingernails grow quicker.

Once every 3 months or so, I'll put on a nail straighthener or clear coat.
