Maybe it's a hipster thing. We don't even know what kind of hat it is. We don't know if he's sporting a full head of hair with the hat. We need more info, OP. Are you still here?

Without more info, I'd assume that it's to conceal a receding hairline.

Upper twenties and receding is not that uncommon.

Is a receding hairline a problem for you? I've never much cared if a guy has one.

I have longer hair that is very thick and curly. I wear a hat when it is uncontrollable, or is getting too poofy.
