I think so. I'm thin (and short) and 31 and WITH make-up I get mistaken for about 19 or 20. Wuthout make-up, I get abput 12-13.

But I'd never ever want to be fat so I'll deal with looking like a child because it's better than being fat.

Not as much as hairstyle and clothes. Old lady haircut...old lady clothes can make a young gal appear old.

Fatter people tend to have fewer wrinkles, because they have fatter faces. So, if anything being skinny CAN make you look older. Regardless, I'll never allow myself to get chubby no matter what lol.

A friend of mine went through a nasty divorce and lost a lot of weight from stress. Prior to that she was probably a size 12, maybe 14. After, she was able to wear extra large KIDS clothing, or a juniors 0 or 1. She looked awful... and it wasn't that she was too skinny for her frame, it was her face. Without any extra fat she looked old and haggard.

She put back on about 20 pounds (I think), up to a size 5 now, and looks fine.

They say that after 40, you absolutely can't lose weight, because you will add on a ton of wrinkles. So, your best bet is to stay thin before that and you shouldn't age too badly.

Well "they" are wrong.

It all depends on the person. Some people with great skin elasticity will not suffer an ill effect. It depends on so many factors, how well they've taken care of their skin, stayed out of the sun, avoided smoking, excessive alcohol, etc.

Then you need to factor in genetics.

As far as weight loss goes, it is generally HARDER to shed pounds after 40. It is certainly not an "absolute". That's a really silly thing to say.

I believe it is younger looking to have a nice, fit, toned body but some of the older women in the gym are too fit and toned - they have popping neck vains, strained vulture faces with an expression of constipation and there they are on the stairmaster 3 hours a day - what good is adding a couple of years to your life if you are always hungry and miserable?

Yes being thin makes an older (over 40 years old) look younger.

Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren, Cloris Leachman are three thin women who look phenomenal at ages 75, 86 and 67 respectively, they wouldn't look that young if they were fat.

I would take the body of a "bone thin" Aniston, SJP, Cox, Jolie and Shriver over Rosie O'Donell, Roseanne Barr, Oprah Winfrey, Katie Bates or Queen Latifah.

Kirstie Alley, Ricki Lake, Chaka Khan, Star Jones and Patti Stanger, all look years younger after losing some of their body fat.
