On the one hand, there's a major revival of 80s stuff going on but on the other hand, the late 90s was kind of the beginning of fashion looking 'generic' and while it's become funkier and more 'retro' looking over the past few years there's still plenty of people who dress very plainly.

So far I would say more 90s. At least in small towns lime mine, where I saw ugly, bright stuff in stores but not quite on people.

Leggings, leg warmers, long shirts, chunky boots/shoes are ALL definitely 80s looks. So far, I am very relieved that neon colors and acid washed denim aren't coming back. Knock on wood!

Neon was back over the summer. Did you miss it? I even saw a some acid washed. The trendy kids were doing both where I live.

I did get some neon accessories though. I kinda like neon.

Completely 80s.. ughhh.. Colored (neon) tight fitting jeans, leg warmers.. the shirts with weird sleeves (female)- I call it the Pat Benatar look.
Spandex.. or what looks like females wearing spandex.. ewww.. Some people were just not meant to wear that.. (leggings also).. people... stop wearing this.. you look nasty.. (except maybe 5% of the population who are chicken legged)
Down vests
layers and more layers... solid tees under jackets..

That all came from the eighties. Bright colors started in the eighties and then carried on into the early nineties. By around late 92 to 93 the nineties began the grunge movement. It was grunge for a few years and then went a bit hip hop. But because the grungemovement was pretty good for atleast a good five to six years along with hip hop.

You don't see the color scheme once grunge arrived. And before that, the color scheme was mainly from the early eighties with punk/ rock and then it went well with the beginning movements with hip hop. Although hip hop started in the early eighties. It didn't really go mainstream until the late eighties which then carried on the early nineties which if you were too young to remember the eighties, it was a carry on effect of more mainstream hip hop.

But to me todays fashions, with their overall abundance on coloring everything from clothing to shoes/ sneakers/ jackets/ jeans. Right now we are very much more fashionwise in the eighties. One thing I hope they don't bring back (one poster had mentioned it) is those leg warmers. I want to kill the man/ women who created them...lol

I notice the very early 90s (like 1990 90s) seems to be starting to come back a bit. Check out this video.

I've seen acid washed denim rearing its head around here, lately. Sigh.

Oh god I hope hair band hair/style comes back.

I was OBSESSED with 80's hair metal growing up and still have a huge stack of vinyl records with everything from Ratt to Quiet Riot.

This needs to happen.
