It's all perspective. Sperry's remind me of dress shoes I wore as a kid when my parents made me go to church. Some guys like them, but I don't. I don't like when people make sweeping statements like "dress like a man" when all you really mean is "dress like I like to dress." There is nothing wrong with loafers or sperry top-siders in general (just because I personally don't like doesn't mean I'm condemning them; they just are not my style) but there isn't anything wrong with athletic-style shoes or chucks or something either. It completely depends on your style of dress in general.

Early 20s, I either wear Puma sneakers, loafers or most commonly, black dress shoes. They aren't the most comfortable but I dislike how casual sneakers can make me look, I prefer looking smart-casual.
I usually wear retro suede sneakers with jeans. I have Puma Suedes in a few different colors. I love them for walking around, and they don't look like standard athletic shoes. But they're very comfortable.
Besides work boots and the occasional Vans shoe, its always a Puma.
Puma is my favorite. All my casual sneakers now are Puma. It's funny that I didn't own a pair of Pumas for close to 20 years, and now I have several pairs.
