Hiking boots are good alternative if you dislike sneakers.

Yes, they tend to be darker in color and blend in well with jeans. Real running shoes with jeans are a pretty casual look, and I think that whether it looks good depends upon the shoe itself, the style of jeans, and the build/body type of the person wearing them.

I favor fashion type sneakers with jeans. They're comfortable and a bit less casual than running shoes. I'm a big Puma guy and I have several pairs of Puma Suedes and Clydes that I wear with jeans. Dressier rubber-soled suede or leather shoes can also be nice with jeans.

either sneakers (Nike Air Max or Classic Adidas are my favorites right now) or for loafers something from Aldo.

I will wear a pair of Air Jordan's sometimes too.

I like hiking shoes for casual wear with jeans. I have a nice pair of Patagonia hiking shoes that are the most comfortable shoes I own.

If you want something a little more stylish look at Allan Edmonds line of casual shoes.

I've liked sneakers ever since me and my brother used to wait for the introduction to "My Three Sons". After seeing that sneakered foot tapping to the beat of the theme song we are mostly sneaker guys....although I do like the old brown shoes sometimes, because of the George Harrison/Beatles song.

I am 29.
Casually I wear whatever depending on the weather.
During Spring - Summer, I most likely will wear boat shoes. Sperry top Siders.
Or if i want to be fancy, I have been wearing my Cole Haan or Allen Edmonds oxfords or wing tips with bright soles.
Fall - winter I wear boots or high top sneakers.

With jeans, I wear everything from these:

To these (More often with shorts though):

Depends on what I'm doing / where I'm going.
I hate standard sneakers with a passion. If I need to be dressier or business casual, I wear my Coles. For comfort and general casual/lounging stuff, my Sanuks fit the bill. (They are extraordinarily comfortable. No socks)
They go really well with lighter jeans.

In the Summer I like flipflops around the yard and I love my Crocs everywhere else. My wife thinks I have given up on trying to be hip and cool but I say Crocs are cool. I don't wear socks with them....... yet.
