Have you ever known a guy that wanted to be attractive? If so how did it end up? (guys, head)

Like say this guy was average looking and decent but not good enough to turn heads and such or be that guy. Now many say good looks are based on genetics (and I won't disagree) but have you known guys who were so so looking, wanted to be more attractive, and ended up being more attractive?

Here is one famous guy that comes to mind for me

Get plastic surgery, put down the potato chips or just buy a Ferrari. You will turn heads.

I knew a couple of guys in high school who practically had a complex about how they didn't like the way they looked, etc.
I remember one guy I met in college, too.
They worked out like fiends. Ate right. Dressed sharp (well, two of them - the other one kept wearing his holey t shirts).
It was amazing how things turned around for them.

Some succeed and some say forgetaboutit and focus on something else.
Just like chicks.
