It's quite obvious that facial hair - beards, moustaches.etc - were bigger in the 70s and 80s than today or in the decades preceding them. I'm interested, from a socio-cultural view, what quite prompted this change, because I don't think it was quite random. I think it is actually related to having long hair, even if many bearded men had short hair. In the late 60s many young people rebelled by 'letting it all hang out' and growing their hair - any hair, for that matter. Slowly, I think this 'natural' fashion permeated throughout the general population, so that everyone was now sporting beards, moustaches, even the conservative strait-laced accountant. Of course the beards of the 80s tended to be a bit more manicured, but I think one can make a case for it.

I don't know, but moustaches are about the stuipidest thing I've ever seen on men. I see this dude at the gym who has one, a white male I'd say in his mid 20s I think of them that men who were in their teens/20s in the '70s wore, so they've continued it into their old age. So if you're under 50, it really makes you look old to have one.
