Seems to be only those who have a distinct roll of flesh above the top of their low-riders, are who wears them. Whatever top they are wearing doesn't stay in place. This is not a rarity.
Apparently, I should have asked why do women who weigh too much wear low-riders way too tight? Their rear is so smushed together, it must take a few minutes to open when the jeans are removed. Maybe they were low-riders because the the roll of fat above the top can't be pushed into regular jeans.
I agree that lots of muffin top women wear low-rise jeans, but I'm slender and these are the only kinds of jeans I like to wear. There ARE thin women who wear low-rise jeans out there. It's just the bigger ones who get noticed more, I think.
I could stand to lose a few pounds and I can tell you that I hate those low rider (plumber's crack) jeans with a purple passion. I never wear them, myself.

This.^^^
Even being small some cuts slide down and press into the hip fat area. It doesn't muffin out but maybe thats just pre-muffin meat getting squished up. I just wonder if it looks muffined out when they put them on or if they are victims to the slide incident.
Funny thing is that the smaller sizes pre-muffin less or not at all.
I have a short rise. Anything other than low rise moves into mom jeans territory on me and is usually too roomy in the high hip area.

I'm pretty lucky in that most of my low-rise jeans don't give me this problem. But I've tried wearing some that are so tight that they will produce the muffin top effect no matter what. I think it just depends on the manufacturer. Since I like wearing crop tops, I have to be extra careful that I don't fall victim to the muffin top effect.
Last time I wore low rise jeans I was 12 - not a good look for a woman with curves - good for very thin women with no butts - and yes I have seen thin women in them -

My fit/body does the opposite. Tight is good, painted on also ok, but comfort fit is slide city.
LOL
Definitely depend on the brand.
