That's got to be rough, but if you aren't bitter about it, chances are that you're a better person than someone who used their looks to gain (perhaps unwarranted) privilege. Have you known a person that was once beautiful, but went through an accident that left them disfigured? What if you were to lose your looks tomorrow?

Ok, I'll bite.

I think it would royally suck to go from a person of moderate attractiveness to someone who could star in a freak show overnight. I suspect that I'd eventually accept my new lot in life, becoming much more reserved, patient, and empathetic to the struggles of others. I'd further pursue my academic interests and perhaps take up writing. There is power in words, thoughts, and ideas that not even beauty can top.

What I've seen is a lot of this:

High school bullies, who were mainly that way because they were considered good looking (elevated them in status and gave ability to get away with being jerks) , morphing in their older years into Jabba the Hutt- looking folks. It's a sort of poetic justice-- which can be seen at almost every (10+) high school reunion in this country.

I think eventually your insides catch up with your outsides: If you treat people like dirt, life has a way of showing it on your person. I've seen this too: nice girl plain Janes and Jims turning from ugly ducklings to swans.

I have been very blessed to just get better with age (like fine wine-LOL!). I suppose being good to people/others, as well as myself, has something to do with it. I don't plan on changing how I treat myself or others. I should be in good looking shape for many years to come!

When sitting in a doctor's waiting room, I wonder about some of the couples and what they might have looked like years ago when they were dating. Some are so goofy looking, they must have changed a lot.

It all depends on personality and self-confidence. There are examples all around us of ugly people who are very successful and have beautiful spouses, and on the other hand there are beautiful people who are losers. So to answer the OP question in one word, to be ugly is like having low self esteem.
