My BIL wears the utilikilt sometimes...my sister always asks if it's okay before he shows up in it, which I think is funny. I don't care what he wears, he could come to my house in a cocktail dress and I'd still feed him and give him a place on the couch.
About skirts on men because women wear pants...a skirt is a useless thing. We wear pants because they're more functional. You can climb a ladder, change a tire, ride a bike, etc. Pants have pockets, if you're lucky. Skirts are sometimes too narrow to take a real step in, they have no pockets, sometimes they zip in the back, the long ones are really warm to wear, the short ones make you be really careful of how you sit, bend over, walk, etc. Basically a skirt limits you, and I can't see the average guy wanting to be limited like that.
Simple question. Will menswear evolve to include skirts in the same vein as womenswear did to include pants? Discuss.
I've seen two men wearing skirts in the last couple of years, and both were skanks. Even if I was in the market for a new relationship they would not make my D list.
Historically, men have worn togas, kilts, sarongs, robes, tunics, etc., so it's not inconceivable that some men might don skirts. I doubt it would be widespread.
As a woman, I often prefer skirts/dresses to pants in warmer weather for coolness factors. But I was talking to my SO's brother-in-law, who is Scottish, the other day, and he wore a traditional kilt for his wedding. And as traditional tartan kilts have something like nine yards of fabric, layered, and made of wool (all the better for keeping warm in the highlands, traditionally), keeping cool is actually NOT a feature.
