So,I really like the style of clothing, but am not sure is I would look silly wearing them as everyday wear.
Well, not everyday as I wear nursing uniforms 70% of the time, but things like running to the store etc..
The corset skirts and some of the shirts look like they won't get too hot in the summer, but the thing is they look like they are form fitting without completely showing too much skin.
Of course,I won't get the more outrageous clothing like the bustle skirts, but the clothing looks feminine.

I like steampunk style but the best way to wear it (and not look as if you are wearing a costume) is to just mix steampunk elements into your outfits instead of doing head to toe.
I wear steampunk jewelry as my 'standout' item that I wear with a lot of different outfits (jeans and a tank or maxi dress with a steampunk necklace)
Or I might wear a steampunkesque skirt with a more simple shirt like this...
Or for summer, a dress like this one (I have a similar dress in white) that I wear with sandals
I concur with Calipoppy , I think you can tone Steampunk down quite a lot and still look distinctive. Take it down a notch to make it work in daytime situations. Add a few flourishes and accessorize or go a more subtle version of it. Steampunk can be as simple or as OTT as you make it in my opinion.
If I was the perfect shape I think I would wear a lot of Steampunk stuff, the less outre stuff. I love the fact it can be so feminine and the historical aspect of it.
I love where steampunk is going fashion wise and I think it can toned down to look fashion forward. I love the how romantic the Victorian era was. Its beautiful but for some reason kind of creepy when you see it in an antique shop.
