Yes, it's tacky, trashy, and skanky but many people don't care what they look like anymore. Take a look around in the grocery store sometime.

I think it's tacky but it seems to be the trend and I rarely notice it any more. If it is really hot outside, which around here is most of the year and I'm at some sort of outside event or venue you'll see it quite a bit. Like these people can't just buy a strapless or racerback or they are just broke, ignorant of their existence or unaware of it being tacky looking. I dunno.

I blame their parents, video games and Obama.

Tacky. I see parents with daughters who have intentionally visible bra straps usually with tank tops or cut out sleeves. Parenting has changed cuz my mother would not allow me to dress that way no matter how old I was. It also has to do with peers. I see preppy neatly groomed girls who wouldn't dare, but I see more girls who look aspire for the pajama bottom tank top look rather than a gossip girl character. I came up when everyone wanted to dress like the 90210 original recipe Brenda/Kelly Taylor era. Now too many teen girls look downright slovenly or they look as my friend would say a hot mess.

conservative 24 year old here and bra straps showing is the norm unless you're in church. As long as they're clean and not black or red (I try to keep it to white and light pink) its not tacky.

But why is it the norm? is there something attractive about bra straps that we older folks just are neglecting to see?

Looks like a lot of people posting from beach communities are more broken in. You see swimsuits sticking out all the time in those settings. It was a trend when I was in my late teens early twenties. I still thought gwen stefani looked silly with it. Its a taste thing, not an age thing.

Bra Straps| by Strappys — Rhinestone and Beaded Bra Strap Solution, Bra Strap Exposure

Not a good look.

A lot of young women wear a sports bra under tank tops and the straps show, and I think that looks ok.

I saw a woman in Manhattan one day wearing some kind of blouse that had an open circle in the back, and the entire back of her bra with the hooks and everything showed. It wasn't some sort of strap slip-up or something--I don't know WHAT kind of bra could have been worn with this top that wouldn't have shown, but it looked awful. Besides the fact that the whole back of the bra showed, it was dingy and ratty looking, as if it was once a white bra that had been used and washed with non-white things too many times. The rest of her looked put together--nice slacks, nice shoes, hair done...and this hideous bra back hanging out visible for everyone to see.
