What is disturbing is that it is really not just a preference for many people, but an obsession, as they find their own body hair gross, offensive or dirty. This seems like a pathological issue.

Grooming is a pathological issue? Hmmmm
NO

Its just a preference. Hair does = more bacteria and is dirty. Its why the old falls out and new one pop up. Part of the more natural cleansing of overturning dead cells.

This weekend is going to be a waxing one. The s.o. is going to let me do his chest hairs. All 12 of them. LOL Im going for a head to toe myself. If you never have done it I suggest to give it a try. Even if you skip the sensitive parts like the crotch, butt and pits. It really makes your skin feel clean and gets rid of the top layer of skin along with the hair. It makes the skin take in moisture better and brightens it up from removing the dead cells.

Funny, I have always felt much dirtier when I've gone bare than when I leave my natural growth. I think because there's nothing there to hold things in, it's just free flowing

I like the more bare look but it's just not worth it to me. From time to time I'm struck with the desire to remove some hair but the regrowth process is so painful and itchy. I decided I looked better with some neatly trimmed hair than nasty red ingrowns. It seems to bother some people less than it does me.

I am curious, though, why so many men prefer it. I don't think all the men who like smooth nether regions are secret pedophiles, but what is the visual appeal? Is it just the influence of porn and they're used to seeing it look that way?

Some people just don't like the look or feeling of body hair. What's so wrong about that?

Years ago one of my friends accidentally shaved it all off while she and her boyfriend were trying to groom it into a certain shape (long story). Anyway, many times for the next week or two when we were out in public she would excuse herself to the restroom and if unable to do so, would randomly hide behind counters, walls, me, etc., to scratch what she described as a constant itch while it was growing back.

Exactly. My first wife used to shave everything. When she would ask why I wouldn't look at her, I told her it's because she looked like she was 9 years old "down there" and it made me feel sick.

no one says a man who shaves his face looks like a nine year old boy. so why do people say a woman who shaves her pubes look like a nine year old girl?

if you think pubic hair is the only difference between a prepubescent child and an adult woman, there's seriously something wrong with you.

Keep it shaved and it's a nonissue.
