Oh fun! I consider myself fairly disciplined about only keeping clothes that I actually wear, but this is interesting to think about.

1. How many dresses do you own? (Please include off-season stuff): 5 "dressy" dresses, and roughly 15 "casual/semi-dressy" dresses.

2. How many skirts? 7 or so.

3. How many dressy trousers? (meaning, no jeans, sweatpants, or leggings.) 5

4. How many shorts? None that I would ever wear out in public -- just two cotton pairs that I wear around the house.

The thing is, though -- I can wear jeans to work any day of the week, and in the summer, I live in skirts/dresses instead of shorts/capris. Shorts do me no favors (and never have, even when 25+ lbs lighter!), and I'm so short legged that most capris look like Urkel pants on me anyway.

I have a LOT of clothes. I wear a good 75% of them in their appropriate season & I am overdue for a clean-out. I have hardly changed size since I was 18 though, so if I care for my clothes well (and I do), they last a long time. Also, when you have a lot of clothes, you rotate more, making stuff last longer also.

dresses - 40+...? I'm scared to count. I love dresses - sundresses, maxi dresses, shift dresses, vintage dresses, swingy dresses, pencil dresses, jersey/t-shirt dresses, etc.
skirts - 20-25 at least. This includes jean & casual skirts. There are probably about 3-5 or so I don't wear anymore because they're shorter than I prefer now.
dressy trousers - Maybe 3 & I only wear 1 pair, but this is not counting black skinny pants that I wear for casual also. I tend own jeans & casual but nice pants (like some linen wide leg pants or printed loose pants). If I dress up, then I do a skirt or dress.
shorts - approx 15, without about half that need to go (some too short/small for me now; I'm almost 30, not 18 ). I live in SoCal & like the beach...so....

This thread is a gas...I'm really enjoying the results! Looks like I'm about average in the dress/skirt count.
Thanks to all who have responded so far. Keep them coming!

[quote=Zenstyle;30260920]I've been reading blogs and articles about paring down one's wardrobe to only what actually gets worn. I've pared down to a reasonable, but not sparse, minimum, and my closet looks and feels the better for it.
Which makes me curious about where I am in the continuum of clothing acquisition...

1. How many dresses do you own? (Please include off-season stuff) 9
2. How many skirts? 4
3. How many dressy trousers? (meaning, no jeans, sweatpants, or leggings.) 8
4. How many shorts? 12 +

thats enough

1. How many dresses do you own? 108 (not including evening dresses)

2. How many skirts? 49

3. How many dressy trousers? 8 (I don't wear pants a lot)

4. How many shorts? 12

I have more clothes at the other house so I don't know the grand total. How are people getting by with so few clothes?
