MAYbe $50.
The older I get the less brand names, fashion, and style mean to me.
And the less I care about possessions.

I always have thought even paying $100 for a handbag was crazy. So I sure as heck think 1K, 2,500K and more is nuts.
But I have friends who do spend that on their bags, and more power to them -- and anyone else who's into that.

I have a lots of very nice quilted handbags and totes from excellent fabrics = and no two the same. On the Vera Bradley style. I make 'em and often get some nice compliments; but I don't make them for anyone. Well, probably my daughters. Cost to make one bag around $20.

I've bought more expensive bags, like Coach, and they fall apart after a few months. I have a $30 Target handbag that's still in good condition.

My husband buys me high end designer bags or shoes for my birthday and Christmas. I think they are well worth it because I use them for a long period of time and they get better with age. I don't shop very often and I am pretty much a minimalist when it comes to fashion and jewelry, so I do not mind spending for bags or shoes. I plan to pass them down to my daughter some day. She is using one of my bags right now.

You can get some really good steals sometimes. Barney's has their secret sale (40% off select high end designer bags and shoes like Chloe, Valentino, Balenciaga, etc) going on right now. Plus ebates. I love a bargain.

I know this post is old, but....
$25 for me, and that's a splurge. But I'm not a big fan of purses (see, I call them purses, which seems like it's not the proper, fancy term- like handbag) and I usually find one for $15 or so. I'm not much of a big spender on anything (and can't afford to be), though.

I can't fathom even paying $100 for a purse, let along the $2K referenced earlier. Whoa!

Less than $100. and it has to be high quality at someplace like TJMaxx or Marshall’s. Of course, less is better.

I have a bunch of Coach bags and this hasnít been my experience.

But I am sure I have posted this sentiment elsewhere. I have a variety of bags at different price points. I pretty much only get leather bags and typically spend $300. I have some cheaper ones and pricier ones.

I find that handbags can be very effective tools - especially when you are starting at a disadvantaged position (e.g. Iím a black woman, people make loads of assumptions about me).

The right bag, at the right time can help you be perceived as higher status - leading you to better treatment, better job opportunities or other advantages. And that is worth the investment. Having the right bag can make you appear toĒfit inĒ and that can be essential in many situations. And we have to use what ever tools we can to get ahead.

So I have definitely purchased certain bags for this reason. But that doesnít mean I canít and wonít carry a cheaper bag. Or an unbranded one. My daily bag choice is based on the image or mood I need to present.

$100 is my limit but I have been using the same cheap ass bag for long I don’t care to spend any money if I don’t have to.
