Even if I could fit more into my budget, I see expensive bags as a waste and honestly, most designer bags aren't that attractive to me. I'd rather have a bunch of quirky, fun, cheaper bags that I can change on a whim then buy an expensive bag that won't necessarily jive with my fashion sense/color scheme in a few years.

This.

Because, if we're going to be honest, spending that much IS within all of our budgets. It's just that we all spend our money differently. Anyone can put a $2K purse on a credit card, whether or not they pay it off when the bill arrives.

I do love handbags and, like you, I'm drawn to unusual or quirky ones. I get compliments often on mine, and I've never spent anywhere near even $1K for one, lol nor do I ever intend to.

They're a frivolous purchase, after all.

I like to mix up my bags. For a nice classic bag I will spend a few thousand. For a quirky, trendy bag, no more than a few hundred.

My SIL and I carry the same philosophy in handbags. We only purchase them at the value of what cash we carry in our wallets. I usually have $10 for emergency. We both have found some marvelous handbags at consignment shops for that price. No one is the wiser as I've yet to be hauled off by the purse police for this acquisition.
Call it practical

Coach makes bags specifically for their outlet. They are inferior quality. Many brands make products specifically for outlet. Tory Burch and Balenciaga are one of the few who have the same product in both retail and outlet.

I haven't bought Coach in a long time, but the old (15-20 years) Coach bags I have are of excellent quality and I still use them. I stopped buying Coach when they slapped a logo all over everything. I cannot stand logos.

Bottom line is this, I do not want to support any foreign designer, especially not with a logo on it. They should be paying ME.
I only want a style I respond to, genuine material, interior compartments to suit my needs, and I price that isn’t a rip off.

Than you are buying the wrong bags at the outlet. I've purchased numerous Coach bags at outlets over the years. All are still in great condition, even those that are probably 20 years old. Some of the bags are specifically made for the outlets. I have one of those. It gets used hard as it's my "party purse" that I take to concerts, bars, casinos, nights out when I don't want a full size bag, etc. Even with the hard use it's in pretty good shape.

I haven't been to the outlet in a few years, but I look at the quality carefully and only purchase the real leather bags-never the cloth bags. If they don't have any, I don't buy any.

I have been buying Coach recently and the majority of bags donít have logos all over the place. Though this season logos are trending.

I've seen several soft leather bags at Marshall's that I love, for $60+, but I can't bring myself to spend that much. I've bought two mini backpacks recently for $30 and $20, but I haven't bought a handbag in forever.

As for Coach, I have two (one from an outlet), both over 10 years old, used sporadically, but they're holding up well.

I'm still alternating among 3 ancient (newest is 15 years old) Coach bags and will replace them only when they're falling apart and can't be repaired. Any replacement will have to be real leather and made in the USA so I'm guessing $300-$400. I have no use for any of the supposedly prestigious brands that outsource their manufacturing to China.
